Why is this important?

A root mapping record (usually a A or AAAA record) is one that doesn't have a hostname like www associated to it. It's important because it tells the internet where your website or service is located.

The root record ensures that when someone types samplecorp.com in a browser without www, for instance, they can still get to your site.
